ABOUT US

Many small and medium sized organisations working to provide mental health services and support lack the capacity, resources or experience to achieve maximum impact with minimum wasted effort or expense. Often these charities are run by volunteer staff with low overheads.

Cuts in government funding, less funds available from Trusts and Foundations and having to compete with large charities, have resulted in many small and medium sized organisations having to cut back on the services and support they deliver and in some cases closing through lack of funds.

Many do not have the time and ability to fundraise as effort is often concentrated on the day-to-day care and provision for their beneficiaries. In the long term such cut-backs in services and closures have proved more costly for the NHS and other bodies such as the Social Services and Police.

PROSPER was established in 2004 to;

  • Promote, protect and preserve good mental health, in particular by providing grants, advice and guidance to charities and voluntary organisations providing care, treatment or rehabilitation services of any type for those suffering from or who are recovering from mental health problems.
  • Promote the efficiency and effectiveness of charities working with or on behalf of people with mental health problems.
  • Promote the effective use of resources for those charities, by providing management, administrative, strategic and other services and support
  • Promote sharing of knowledge and best practice.
